You head to the amusement park, intending to have a great time with your friends and family. The rides! The snacks! The entertainment! What could possibly go wrong?
Certainly today’s amusement parks are by and larger pretty safe. However, accidents can and do happen, and sometimes on the rides that you might least expect. What are some of the most dangerous amusement park rides in the world? Well, let’s just say that some of the entries on this list might surprise you!
1. The Disney Monorail
We told you there would be some surprises! Well, believe it or not, the monorails at both California’s and Florida’s Disney parks have claimed lives over the years.
2. Batman: The Ride
Even if the fictional Batman doesn’t kill people, his ride at Six Flags Georgia certainly does. Two people have been killed while passing beneath it; one of those people was actually decapitated!
3. Space Journey
In 2010, a still-unexplained accident on this Evoventure Valley ride in Szechuan, China, caused the deaths of six people and injured many more.
4. Mission: Space
After this ride first opened in 2005, it was responsible for injuries to 200 people over the course of one 12-month period. In that same period, two people also met their maker as a result of the ride.
5. The Big One
Park of Pleasure Beach Blackpool in England, this once tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world is responsible for injuring nearly 50 people in its lifetime.
6. SCAD Towers
You’ll find these at numerous amusement parks around the world. No matter where the SCAD Tower is located, though, one thing is always true. It’s going to kill or injure someone. Period.
7. Action Park
Thankfully this New Jersey amusement park is no more. The reason? Well it’s numerous rides killed a total of six people while the park was in operation.
8. Superman: Ride of Steel
In 2001, a collision on this Six Flags New England ride landed 22 people in the hospital. Only a few years later, a man was thrown from one of the trains to his death.
