There are just some travel destinations around the world that seemingly everyone wants to visit. While many of these destinations are eminently worth your time, there may be a few that you can scratch of your “to-do” list without actually having to visit them.
On the list below, we’re going to catalogue what we believe are the world’s 15 most overrated travel destinations. To be sure, there will be some disagreement form readers about a few of the places included on this list. But, much like beauty, the value of any given destination is truly in the eye of the beholder. With that said, we think you’ll agree (at least for the most part) that these places are totally overrated!
1. Hollywood Boulevard (California)
People dressed up in two-bit superhero costumes pose for pictures as throngs of people try to cram past, all while looking down at the Walk of Fame… No Thanks!
2. Mount Rushmore (South Dakota)
Most things are more impressive in person than they are in pictures. Mount Rushmore is not one of those things.
3. Casa Bonita (Colorado)
Just because you heard about this place in an episode of South Park, it doesn’t mean you should take time out to visit it in person.
4. The Miami Club Scene (Florida)
Unless you’ve got plenty of disposable income that you can waste on bottle service, the Miami club scene is more trouble than it’s worth.
5. Moulin Rouge (Paris)
With so many other things to see and do in Paris, why would you waste any time on this over-priced and middling attraction?
6. Venice (Italy)
Okay, so Venice is beautiful, and you should probably visit. Just be ready for the smell, which does dampen the romance of this city a little bit.
7. Pier 39 (San Francisco)
It’s a tourist trap that attracts seals too! If you’re passing by, check it out. Otherwise, you’re better of seeing the rest of what San Fran has to offer.
8. The Empire State Building Observation Deck (New York)
With the vastly more impressive observation deck at One World Trade now open to the public, why pay for an inferior experience at the Empire State Building?
9. The Red Light District (Amsterdam)
We’re living in the 21st century now, so maybe it’s time to stop glorifying tourist attractions with uncomfortable connections to human sex trafficking?
10. The London Eye (London)
While cool to check out from the ground, this is one expensive Ferris wheel ticket if you choose to take a ride…
11. Stonehenge (England)
It’s cool to see in person, sure. But did you know that they won’t let you anywhere near the actual thing?
12. Tokyo Disneyland (Japan)
With so much else to see and do in Tokyo, why waste time on an inferior version of what you’ll find in Los Angeles or Orlando?
13. The Blarney Stone (Ireland)
So, you went to Ireland on vacation and you kissed the Blarney Stone? Do you really want to tell people that when you get back home.
14. The Atlantis Resort (Bahamas)
It’s an impressive and massive resort; there’s no doubt about that. But, you’re really not getting an authentic Caribbean experience when you stay here…
15. Las Vegas
We’re going to get some heat for this one, but come on! It’s just hotels, casinos and expensive clubs as far as the eye can see… Is Las Vegas really that great?
