Anyone who has enjoyed the Harry Potter books created by J.K. Rowling, along with their subsequent films, will tell you that they wish the wizarding world was real. Well, for all of you avid fans, the Georgian House Hotel in London has just opened its own splash of Hogwarts and all the rest. Dubbed the Wizard Chambers, this suite of three bedrooms combines the feel of the private homes detailed in the series as well as Hogwarts – especially school’s dormitories. No detail was too great or too small to be passed over and ignored, which is quite evident to anyone who has had either the pleasure of simply viewing pictures of the spaces, or the thrill of actually visiting them.
In keeping with the imagery of the books, the rooms incorporate many gothic motifs, from arched doorways, windows, and mirrors, to carved furniture and faux granite block walls. Two of the rooms come with a single double bed each, while the other room is done up in a dormitory style with two beds. Apart from the objects and choice of materials, the colors also mimic the imagery provided in the books and films, with dark walls and furniture colors contrasting with bright pops of cloth, all of which provides the perfect mixture of somber and cheerful. Apart from the larger, more obvious aspects of the décor, the rooms also feature all sorts of potion styled bottles, Potter books and curios, as well as a whole slew of decorative objects that really bring the wizarding world to life. These rooms have been a hit with children as well as adults who grew up with the books (especially adults who grew up with the books), thus testifying to the joy they offer all guests.
This is the first view that greets guests when they enter the hotel’s wizard chambers.
Although the number on the door denotes a room, the way that this entrance area is designed almost makes one feel as if they’re about to enter their own private wizard apartment.
For those special occasions that require just a bit more atmosphere, the staff breaks out the candles for a little soft glow.
Upon entering this room, the very first thing that the eye is drawn towards is this magnificent four poster bed.
Stepping fully into the room, you’re treated with the full effect of the wizardly decorations, such as the faux granite block walls and oak paneling.
You can almost imagine sitting in this fireplace with a handful of floo powder and shouting out your travel destinations.
While this brings the likes of Hogwarts and the Black House to life, it does have a few of the muggle conveniences – note the T.V.
Entering this room is almost like entering one of the dormitories at Hogwarts – save the secret password bit.
The dark colors of the furniture as well as the walls seem to pay a certain homage to Sirius’ house, but all of the colorful plaid certainly adds a cheerier touch than can be found in that house.
Looking back towards the entrance from this vantage point really helps to emphasize how spacious this room really is.
Note the trunk under the bed – a feature you’ll find throughout the chambers that really help bring that special feeling of Hogwarts alive.
This colorful and cozy little room sports some more of that playful plaid and continues the gothic theme with the corner’s mirror.
Stepping fully into the room really lets you appreciate the gothic flair, from the mirrors and window to the details on the chest.
The prancing lion of Gryffindor is the perfect finishing touch for any Gryffindor enthusiast spending the night within the wizard chambers.
None of this would have the right feel without all of the little details, and it all starts as soon as you walk in, as in the example of these knickknacks displayed in the front hall.
You can’t really have a Hogwarts inspired hotel suite without some of the books that started it all.
These copper teapots lend the perfect level of charm to this bedroom with their gleaming elegant forms.
The symbol of Gryffindor even shows up in the most subtle of places, such as this chair cushion.
Want to really throw yourself back into the wizarding world? Pop on these nifty Harry Potter glasses, open up one of Rowling’s books, and leave the muggle world far behind.
The dull pewter glint of this lovely drinking set lends a wonderful Old World feel to the space.
What’s a magical break from the world without a few potion concoctions? Just be careful about waving your wands near it.
As you bid farewell to the remarkable Georgian House Hotel Wizard Chambers, you leave more with a sense of heading out towards more magic than to the rather mundane muggle world.
