If you’ve got a long flight coming up in the near future, then listen up! We, your flight attendants, know you want to have a happy flight, and we want to make sure you get that happy flight. You probably already know that your experience aboard our plane largely depends on us. Given that, doesn’t it just make sense that you’d want us on your side? With that in mind, here are 10 tips that we can give you to ensure you have a happy flight – one where you might even get a few freebies along the way…
1. Watch It with the Call Button
Would you like someone ringing a bell to summon you somewhere? We’ll be passing by before you know it, so just hold on… (And if you’re going to use the call button, then be sure to heed tip #7!)
2. Oversized Bags Don’t Fit… Period!
Those checked baggage fees are a drag… We get it! However, even if you get it onto the airplane that doesn’t mean it’s going to fit in the overhead compartment. Accept this, and feel happier.
3. No Feet on the Walls, Please!
If you land one of the seats that’s in the bulkhead rows, then appreciate the legroom and keep your feet off the walls.
4. No Dirty Diapers, Please!
It’s understood that traveling with babies is a drag. But, sometimes new parents have this habit of handing us dirty diapers to dispose of… Gross, right? Don’t do it.
5. We Make Special Occasions Special
If you’re traveling somewhere for a special occasion – a birthday, a honeymoon, an anniversary – then let us know! We’d love to have a little bit of fun making a big deal out of it.
6. It’s Not the High Paying Job You Think
Did you know that we don’t get paid for the time in between flights? As a result, we’re often working 12-hour days for 8 hours of pay. That might make you a little cranky from time to time, wouldn’t it?
7. So Be Sure to Tip!
You don’t have to tip all of the time, and it’s not required. But, think of it this way. If you take care of us, we can take care of you. A healthy pour on your next drink? Maybe even an extra airplane bottle? Who knows!
8. Friendly Is as Friendly Does
Virtually no one likes being stuck inside of an airplane for hours on end, but that’s our job – and we understand that. But, tiny bits of kindness, even a smile or a hello, can make long days much easier.
9. Bring a Snack… Get Rewarded!
If you really want to get taken care of on your next flight, give this trick a try. We hate airplane food, too! So, if you’ve brought a bunch of snacks on board, why not spread the love a bit? We’ll be sure to return the favor.
10. Don’t Tie on Your Carry-On!
Airplane aisles are dangerous enough to navigate already with some of your less polite co-passengers sticking their legs out. Don’t make things harder by tying your carry-on around your leg. This is just a recipe for disaster!
